It’s with sadness that we share with you our beloved husband and father, Lynn Harper Pendlebury, age 87, passed away October 9, 2022. He was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on June 26, 1935 to John Henry and Cecile Nell (Harper) Pendlebury. He was the youngest of nine children.
Lynn loved growing up in Blackfoot and made many friends during his grade and high school years. He stayed in touch with his friends throughout the rest of his life.
After high school, in 1954, Lynn went on to serve in the Air Force for three and one-half years. He often said, even though he was in the Air Force, he “never saw a plane.” Later on in life when asked about his service, he would tell people “he watched the ground move.” He served with a small team that was relocated from Germany to Spain. Lynn loved sharing his adventures in Spain with his many friends. It was in Spain where he met the love of his life, Conchi. Conchi never saw him in uniform; the Air Force did not want the local people to feel uncomfortable with military walking around in uniform. It was a good thing because Conchi didn’t want to marry a military man. Ten of the team of fourteen members were single and seven of them were married while in Toledo, Spain. Lynn often called Conchi his Spanish souvenir.
After his military service, Lynn and Conchi moved to California where Lynn graduated from Woodbury College and became a CPA. Throughout his career, Lynn worked in public accounting and insurance regulation in California, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Oregon. Lynn was well respected and often recruited by many states because of his honesty and integrity.
Lynn loved traveling all over the world, meeting people, enjoying new cultures, and new friendships.
Lynn also enjoyed volunteering for the Boys and Girls Club; serving a mission through his church to help individuals find gainful employment; and becoming foster parents for babies until the baby could be placed for adoption.
Lynn loved learning and was a jack of all trades. You would often find him building sheds, gazebos, and decks; putting in new kitchen cabinets; tiling countertops, floors, and showers; installing irrigation systems, laying sod, and installing alarm systems. If you happened to be near him during these times, you might find yourself working alongside him.
The most important thing to know is Lynn was always optimistic. He had a great sense of humor, loved sharing stories, and especially loved people. If you asked him how he was doing, no matter how he felt, he would say “hunky dory.” His daughter called him her energizer bunny.
His wife and daughter would like to thank all who were part of Lynn’s life throughout all the years. He cared for his friends and family and would reach out to check to see how everyone was doing. Thank you for being a part of his life. We will miss him greatly.
Lynn was preceded in death by his son, John Henry. He is survived by his wife Conchi, and daughter Esperanza.
At Lynn’s request, there will be no service. May your life be “Hunky Dory!”
