Louie graduated from South Salem High School in 1970. He met his wife Donnell in 1977 at a local restaurant. Their friendship grew over the years and it was soon inevitable these two would one day marry, which they did in 1994.
Early in his adulthood Louie became a pilot, a hobby he enjoyed for many years. He was also the proud founder of the Spring Valley Fire District and dedicated 46 years volunteering as a firefighter and Fire Chief. He was the only person to ever hold every position within the department. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with great friends at the Lincoln Store, where Louie could be found nearly every day. It was a special place of friendship and camaraderie. Since 2008 Louie owned and operated Fowler Trucking, a sand and gravel business founded by his father in 1950, where customers were not just customers, they became his friends as well.
Louie was preceded in death by his father and mother, John L and Virginia Fowler, and his half brother Carl Alderman, all of Salem, Oregon. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Donnell Fowler; sister Joyce (Mike) Anderson of Salem; Sister in law Darlene Warden of Salem; Brother in Law Dave (Denice) Williams of Salem; nephews Cory Anderson of Hurricane, Utah; Sean (Blythe) Alderman of Salem; Sean Lea (Lauren) of Bend; Cody Hubert of Pendleton; nieces Mandy Rinne of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Kim Crenshaw of North Carolina.
A Memorial Service will be held at Virgil T Golden Funeral Service in Salem, Oregon on January 10 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution in Louie’s name to Spring Valley Fire Department, PO Box 5125, Salem, Oregon 97304.
