Lorene Ann Loseke passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the age of 97. She was born near Leigh, Nebraska to Frank and Alma (Rahtz) Bahns, and was the oldest of five children. She attended rural schools and after graduating, she taught at a one-room country school. In December of 1945, she married Duane Loseke, also of Leigh. They owned a farm in the area and had four children. Duane moved his family to Oregon in 1957 to join Lorene's family. They bought a farm east of Salem where they raised chickens, beef, and berries. In her church community, Lorene was known as the "egg lady", delivering eggs to always volunteered in the kitchen. She and Duane were members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church (formerly Grace Lutheran) since 1958. Sewing was one of her enjoyments and she was always ready to hem, alter, and make clothes for herself and others, from pants to wedding dresses.
Lorene is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Bogstad (Gary) and Bonnie Solonika (Paul), ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and one sister, Shirley Desch. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Duane, her son, Dale, her daughter, Mona, sister Marlene Shaw, and two brothers, Gerald and Larry Bahns.
Lorene was very kind and generous and loved by all her family and will be greatly missed. Her family would like to thank her wonderful and loving caregivers at Benevolence Care Home in Salem for making her last months so happy and comfortable. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM (noon) at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Salem, Oregon.
