It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear friend, Larry "Mike" Welch, who lived a full and colorful life. Mike was born on April 2, 1948 in San Bernardino, CA and later settled in Woodburn, OR. He had a passion for art and psychology, which led him to attend the Chouinard Art Institute/Cal Arts & California State University. His adventurous spirit also led him to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense service medal for his bravery.
Mike was a member of Mensa, The High IQ Society, and PSI CHI, The National Honor Society in Psychology. He had a successful career as a sculptor for Decker Mannequin Company & Mattel Toys, as well as working as a commercial artist for Hasbro Toys, Disney, and various freelance projects. His love for animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses, was evident in his life.
Aside from his professional accomplishments, Mike was a champion wrestler in high school and had a vast knowledge of various subjects like philosophy, history, and religion. He had a great love for the Wild West, the USA, Ireland, Vikings, and many other interests. His family meant everything to him, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mike was preceded in death by Parents Ted and Barbara Welch; as well as his beloved sister Linda Jean Donaldson. Survivors include Mike’s former wife, best friend and love of his life Kristy ‘Denise’ Wolcott, Seal Beach, CA; Favorite daughter Kimberly ‘Kimba’ Denise O’Donnell and husband Scott G. O'Donnell of West Linn, OR; Grand & Great-grandchildren, Austin G., Cody Michael, Evan G. & Charleigh Rose Hewitt of Salem, OR; Nieces & Nephews Tracy, John, Dana, James, Kalani, Aric, Angel & Kids.
