Doran was born October 30, 1942 to Lois and Doyle Hays in their home above the Gamble store in Eustis, Nebraska. After the birth of three kids, his dad was called to the ministry by the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and the family headed to Illinois for college and Seminary. They moved back to Nebraska upon his dad's graduation to be raised by wonderful Nebraska communities in Monroe and Hastings. He said his folks were extraordinary ministers.
He and Louise Lauber were married in 1964 having met at Westmar College in Iowa. After graduation he went into the Marine Corps Reserves, then saved $1,000 to relocate to Oregon. In 1968, Salem's First Presbyterian Church became their rock in Oregon. The next joy was the arrival of two sons, Kevin (Carmen) and Kent. Eventually they enjoyed the bonus of grandchildren Jacob and Jase Hays and Christina, Rian, and Amber Petersen and 13 great grandchildren.
His primary employment was with the State of Oregon. His favorite employment was with the men and women of the Oregon State Police that served Oregonians. He said his best experience in life was teaching 6th grade Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church. Those extraordinary kids inspired his life and became some of his most valued best friends.
"As I have anticipated death in this world, I have become the most alive ever. All Grace and Glory to our God and Savior."
A memorial service for Doran will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Capital Manor, 1955 Salem Dallas Hwy NW, Salem, Oregon 97304.
