Brian was born in Salem Oregon on July 26, 1967 to Jerry Lee and Alice Ruth (Anderson) Whitaker. He began life struggling with multiple physical challenges and eventually was diagnosed with a form of muscular dystrophy at age 13. Courageously, he overcame his limitations to live his best life! He possessed an adventurous spirit; determined to skydive, snow ski, fish, golf, and compete on a bowling team. Brian loved Trains and gathered with friends at local railway depots. His two passions were driving his adapted van along with friends and family to scenic NW destinations and time outside in nature with his faithful dogs.
Brian graduated from Sprague High School in 1985. He pursued radio broadcasting at Chemeketa CC and a job at KSLM. His jobs included towing dispatcher, CP Software, Coachcraft and enjoyed working alongside Dad at IHN Accounting utilizing his computer skills. His childhood dreams of a career as an Emergency Responder led to his certification as an avid HAM radio operator. (K7BRN) Brian thrived in youth summer camps and actively volunteered for Oregon MDA.
Brian will be remembered for his generous kind heart and gentle good-natured manner. He was upbeat, positive and engaged easily in conversations with an informed and accepting approach. Brian selflessly poured his resources into others, connecting people together and was truly an inspiration to many.
He is survived by his Mother, siblings; Lorrie Whitaker, Liane (Ernie) Kirchner, and Michael (Donna) Whitaker, two nephews, four nieces and Sister Martha Applegate. He was proceeded in Death by his Father in 2015 and Grandparents Rupert and Hattie Anderson and Herbert and Opal Whitaker.
The family wishes to thank Brian’s final caregivers Jonie, Julie and Katie for their dedicated care.
