and friends. He was born Sept. 25, 1947 to Virgel and Marian (Crandall) Jones in Decatur, IL.
Alan grew up in a military family where he lived in several southern states and finally settled in
California. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1964 and is a proud Vietnam veteran.
After serving in the military, Alan worked as a deputy for the Los Angeles Sheriff Department.
After a few years on the Sheriff’s department, he received his general contractor’s license,
which led to a lifetime career in construction both in California and Oregon.
Alan was a loyal and loving father, brother and friend. He was passionate about baseball
(favorite teams – the Cubs and Braves). He enjoyed crosswords, telling corny “Dad” jokes, and
the occasional casino visit.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Michele Benis. He is survived by
his daughter, Tracey Schavland (Dave); siblings Cynthia Higl, Steve Jones (Linda), Greg Jones, Lyn Benanti (Gary); and 10 nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service and burial at Willamette National Cemetery will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Be Bold Street Ministries https://www.beboldstreetministries.org/ or to https://www.oregon.gov/odva/connect/pages/donations.aspx
