William Melvin Cole

William M. Cole of Swampscott passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Saturday, April 27. Born in 1929, Bill dedicated his professional life to the field of accounting as a CPA and partner at Herscott, Cole and Company, where his acumen and integrity were unmatched.

Bill served in the 279th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War, and was recognized with the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, and UN Service Ribbon. Later, he was honored with the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal, a tribute from the Korean government for his contributions during the war, a recognition he was very proud of.

Bill was an avid tennis player well into his seventies, as well as a loyal Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics fan.

A devoted husband, Bill was married to the late Shirley Cole for 68 cherished years until her passing in 2019. His love and dedication to Shirley were evident to all who knew them. He was a loving father to Nanci Cole-King of Salem and her late husband, Tim; Martin Cole, and his wife Marisa, of Salem; and mourned the loss of his son Lawrence Cole in 2022. He was a devoted grandfather to Sarah King, Michael Cole, and Leandra Cole. His guidance and love helped shape the lives of his children and grandchildren, leaving a profound impact. Bill also leaves a beloved brother, Jerome Cole and his wife, Barbara, of New Jersey. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Rose Cole, and a brother, Frederick Cole and his wife, Regina.

Bill's legacy of wisdom, kindness, and humor will live on through the lives he touched. He will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, his humor, his unwavering integrity, and his deep commitment to his family.

A graveside service will be held Thursday May 2, 2024 at 10:00AM at Ahabot Shalom Cemetery, 16 Buxton Road, Danvers.

Shiva will be held at the home of Nanci Cole-King, 9D Russell Dr., Salem MA from 12:30PM to 7:00PM.
