Margaret was born May 5, 1928 in China. She married George Leong in 1947 and they had 5 children: Donald (Terry), Mabel (Mike), Richard (Nancy), Warren and Shirley (Charlie). She was proceeded in death by her husband, George and son, Warren.
She was the proud grandmother of Matthew (Emily), Adam, Johanna, Joel, Brian, Tracy (Matthew), Tim (Rachel), Courtney (Aaron), Lorri (Clint), Taylor, Mark (Elizabeth) and Megan (Ben). Her great grandchildren included Jack, Ethan, Alexa, Amelia, Marissa, Fischer, Linus, Simone, Adeline, Grayston, Harper, Leonardo, Landon, Leighton, Nora and Colin.
Margaret had a passion for gardening growing melons, green beans and fu qua. She volunteered with the Scouts, learned to cook American food, taught her grandchildren/great grandchildren how to count in Chinese, helped with school’s Chinese New Year celebrations and managed to get a driver’s license.
George and Margaret supported their children by managing Chu’s Chop Suey so all her children could complete college. She learned English while trying to teach her children the Chinese language.
She worked hard, but managed to find time to socialize with friends, playing mahjong and talking to her friends on the phone. When she retired, Margaret watched Chinese soap operas on TV.
Her last 2 ½ years were spent at Manor Grove in Kirkwood where she was well loved and given excellent care. Everyone knew Margaret and complimented her on her friendliness and her assortment of hats. Her door was always decorated with the great grandchildren’s pictures. When family would take her for a stroll around the facility, Margaret always made sure she wore a hat and always managed to end up in the Activity’s room where the snacks were!
Margaret will always be remembered for her love of babies, making people feel special and we will cherish her memories forever.
