Don was born on December 10, 1932 in St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Helen Gray, brother Richard Gray Jr. and sister JoAnn Brunk. He is survived by his sister-in-law Cathy Gray, and four sons Donald Jr., Scott, Chris and Ty. He has 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Don graduated from St. Louis Roosevelt High School, whereafter he enlisted in the Marine Corp and served as a Corporal in the Korean War. His specialty was a sharp shooter and gun maintenance repair. After returning home, he attended night school at Washington University where he earned an Associate’s Degree in architectural drafting. He worked most of his career as a construction administrator for HOK Architects in St. Louis.
Don is remembered by his family as a hard-working, loving father who was devoted to his family. He was a skilled craftsman and a perfectionist. He never missed an event for his sons from sporting events to graduations, was a dedicated outdoorsman, and loved spending time deer hunting or just being in the woods with nature.
Visitation: Tuesday, August 23, 2016, 4-8pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary (6464 Chippewa at Watson). Funeral: Wednesday at 10am in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Please share memories and condolences at www.hoffmeistercolonial.com.
