I love Bill with all my heart! He will be missed dearly! He’s such a gentle, kind soul, with the greatest laugh! Him and Terri have always been so loving, inviting, hospitable, caring, and fun for my family and I! They’re my parent’s best friends and treated us as such, especially growing up. They would take in all six of us for summer vacations. We loved being in their pool, hanging out with them, hearing their stories of times past, making wonderful memories! The best memories were those of playing Marco Polo in their pool for hours, until the wee hours of the night, when we used battery operated lights in baggies for lights. My mom thought we were going to die by electrocution! 😁 
We also enjoyed having them over here in El Paso for many Thanksgivings until they moved to Florida. So many great memories for me! Our condolences to everyone left behind. I pray I see him again in heaven one day! May he rest in peace now and may Terri, Aida Jean, Stacey, Dominic and the rest of his family and friends be comforted by our dear Lord, in due time. How can I honor the memory of an extraordinary man, someone who touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him? For me, he wasn’t just the grandfather of my best friend; he became a steadfast presence in my life, a source of wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength.
I first met him when I was just 8 years old, a shy little girl new to San Antonio who quickly became best friends with his granddaughter. Even then, I could sense how special he was—his warmth, his patience, his humor. Over the years, he became so much more than “her grandfather.” He became family.
He was there when I had my first car accident, calmly reassuring me that everything would be okay. When I left for basic training, he looked out for my father, easing my worries and showing me the depth of his care. And when my father passed away, he was by my side at the hospital. I’ll never forget how he sat with me, urging me to go home and rest, reminding me that everything would work itself out while arrangements were made.
He was also there for one of the happiest, yet most chaotic, moments of my life—when I went into labor. With my husband stuck at work, he stepped in without hesitation, driving me to the hospital. I still laugh when I think about the nurses mistaking him for my husband. He chuckled and said, “Oh no, I’m just the grandpa—not her husband!” That was who he was—always ready to help, always lightening the mood.
He was more than loved; he was deeply respected. To my family and I, he wasn’t just a grandfather, a neighbor, or a friend. He was a guiding presence, a pillar of strength, and a reminder of the goodness in this world.
We will miss him dearly, but his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. Rest in peace, Grandpa Duggins. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
