Stephanie Jones, (Nee Camoriani) was born August 22, 1939, in San Francisco, California. Her parents were August and Marie Camoriani, and her sister was June. Stephanie graduated from Presentation High School in 1956. After that, she attended UC Berkeley, where she was a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Stephanie met David Jones in the Bancroft Library, and the two began dating. Following her graduation with honors in History, Stephanie and David were married on 20th, August 1960, and began their sixty-four year marriage.
Stephanie taught English and History at St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California, at the tender age of twenty-one. She was beloved by all for her dynamic teaching style, and youthful enthusiasm. In July of 1963, Stephanie gave birth to a baby girl, Leslie, and in December of 1964, she gave birth to a baby boy, Neil.
Stephanie was dedicated to her family, but remained engaged in the community. In 1966, the family moved to Sacramento. Stephanie was a homemaker and when her children bagan school, she volunteered at St. Charles Borromeo School. Stephanie ran the library and later the school office. She was also a substitute teacher and taught enrichment classes.
In September of 1975, Stephanie returned to full-time teaching at St. Charles. She taught seventh and eighth grade History and English for eleven years, and was beloved by her students and colleagues. Stephanie expanded her professional horizons in 1986 when she earned a Master's in Education and Administrative Credential from St. Mary's College in Moraga, California.
Stephanie continued her career as a school principal of St. John Vianney in Rancho Cordova from 1986 through 1992. Stephanie served as an administrator at All Hallows from 1993 through 2002. From 2002 through 2008, Stephanie was co-administrator at Holy Family in Citrus Heights.
Following her retirement in June of 2008, Stephanie channeled her energy into volunteer work. A survivor of multiple bouts of cancer, Stephanie wrote over eight thousand letters to breast cancer patients through Girls Love Mail. Stephanie was especially proud of being interviewed by Catie Beck on NBC's World News Tonight regarding her work with Girls Love Mail. From 2010-2015, Stephanie served as a peer navigator for patients at UC Davis Cancer Center. She was a docent at the California History Museum until June 1, 2024. Stephanie's kindness, warmth and wit touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Stephanie passed away July 3rd, of complications related to colon cancer. She touched the lives of countless people and brought her sense of humor and engaging wit to every situation. Stephanie was a devoted wife, mother, educator, and gave her best effort to all of her endeavors. Stephanie made the world a better place, and she is loved and missed by many, many people.
Stephanie's memorial service will be a Mass at St. Anthony Parish, followed by a reception on August 6th, 2024, at 11:00 AM. St. Anthony Church is located at 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA 95831.
