History:
Bob grew up in Chicago attending Catholic grammar and high school, he graduated from St Mel High School and attended Loyola University. Growing up his parents owned a candy store before the war. His father worked for Florsheim shoes and mother worked for the Federal Government. He entered the US Air Force in 1951 and had a long 30 year career which took him to many places in the United States and overseas.. In 1953 he married Mary Theresa Hemmersbach in Chicago and they were married 62 years until her passing in 2015. Together they resided in New York, Texas, Nevada, New Mexico and California, England and Belgium. He was also stationed in Korea and Thailand. He retired from the Air Force in 1981 and went to work for the United States Post Office and was a mail carrier for 10 years before retiring and taking a long deserved break to watch his favorite shows and sporting events on TV.
He loved to travel and see new places and experience new adventures, he once took a photo safari trip to Africa, took several cruises to Alaska, Canada and Mexico. He was always up for a road trip and he and Mary drove up and down the coast of California, out to the Midwest to visit family, and to see the sights of America.
He was an avid bowler and at one time was on 4 leagues simultaneously. As a young person he enjoyed roller skating and with his brother, Bill, and a group of friends formed a roller skating club sporting matching jackets.
He will always be remembered for his quick smile, hearty laugh and willingness to help anyone who needed it.
