Robert Jackson Morris, 66, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Bob, as he was known to most, was born September 21, 1955 in Augusta, Georgia to Seaborn and Kaethe “Kitty” Morris. Bob spent most of his first nine years living in Germany as his father was in the US Army. They lived in military housing with his maternal grandparents, Oma and Opa, with whom he stayed close until their passing.
When Seaborn retired in 1964, the family moved back to the states and made their home in Rancho Cordova. Bob attended local schools, including Cordova High before enlisting in the U.S. Army, following in his father’s footsteps. As a Spec4, Bob was stationed at Herzo Base in Herzogenaurach, Germany where he spent a significant amount of time in the field acting as a forward artillery observer. Bob met many people during his time in the service but most of his prized memories were traveling on the German Rail System getting to and from gatherings with several other Cordova alumni stationed nearby, including his brother Steve. After spending three years in the service, Bob returned back to Rancho Cordova once again spending time with his longtime friends playing softball and beginning a long career in the Volkswagen/automobile parts industry.
Bob married Margaret (Hood) in 1980 and began their family with two children to soon follow. Camping, Giants baseball, 49ers football, Little League baseball and slow-pitch softball were a significant part of his activities as the kids were young. Bob had a competitive spirit - during the 1970s and 1980s, he was an outfielder for many of Rancho Cordova’s top teams, including the Potheads, Shakey’s Pizza and Roma’s Pizzeria. Bob was also an outstanding bowler, and in 2002 rolled his first and only 300 game during league play.
Bob was a lover of many of life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed working around the house, playing golf, watching movies, and traveling. Most of all, he loved and adored his children, Leslie and Brad, and his four wonderful grandchildren. As Bob’s health declined, he still maintained his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. Over the past couple of years, he enjoyed all visitors who would gather outside his bedroom door enjoying conversation, food and beverages.
He was blessed with a loving family, and many faithful friends. Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret, brother Steven (Nancy) Morris, children Leslie (Dan) Blomquist and Brad (Megan) Morris, and four grandchildren, Elanor, Lydia, Baxter and Calvin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother Joe.
Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, father, papa and brother who had a heart of gold and a bright, shining spirit that touched the lives of everyone with whom he knew.
Bob’s family would like to thank the physicians and home health care workers who provided for his care over the years, many who became close friends.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA on December 21, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. with a reception to follow in Sacramento. For planning purposes, please rsvp to [email protected] if you plan to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House Foundation, Bob’s most valued non-profit providing housing for military and veteran families during hospital stays: www.fisherhouse.org.
