John Vos was born September 6, 1919 on a farm in Jasper County, Iowa to William Jr. and Cornellia Vos. He was the middle child of 5. He attended Sully Christian School in Sully, Iowa. Driving his sisters to school with a horse and buggy and later a Model T.
Even as a young boy John helped on the farm and continued to after graduation.
In 1942 John entered the Army/Air Corps, serving in Panama, India and Tinian during WWII.
After the war John remained in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic.
In 1951 John married Effie Jansen, making their home in Suisun, California.
To this union a son, Larry was born.
He Retired from the Air Force in 1965 as a Technical Sergeant.
Civilian life took the family to Sacramento where John worked at Sharpe Army Depot and later McCLellan Air Force base as a mechanic.
John and Effie were charter members of Living Stones Christian Reform Church where John had served as an elder for many years.
He enjoyed, working on cars, gardening, home improvement, and visiting family.
John was able to celebrate his 99th birthday with family and friends at church.
John passed away peacefully September 15 at the age of 99 years and 9 days.
He is survived by son, Larry and daughter –in-law, Carol of Bentonville, Arkanasa. 3 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. John was proceeded in death by his wife Effie, his parents, one brother and three sisters.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 24 from 9- 10:00 AM and a Funeral will begin at 10:00 AM at the Living Stones Church, 1390 Florin Road, Sacramento, California. Interment will be immediately following the funeral at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California where John will be buried with full military honors.
