Sandoval, Alphonso “Al” C., 77, of Sacramento passed away on July 16, 2014. He was born in Lovell, Wyoming on October 6, 1936 to the late Alphonso C. Sandoval of Raton, Colfax, New Mexico and the late Bertha Asay Sandoval Spooner of Gridley, Butte, California. He was a United States Army National Guard Veteran and was employed by Southern Pacific in the 1980’s as a “boiler maker” welder. He also worked for Channel 10 security, worked at carpentry, and was also employed at Blue Diamond. He was a true jack of all trades. Al, lovingly called “the Bear” by close friends and family, loved music, especially big band and listening to old time radio shows. He also enjoyed sharing his stories of performers and celebrities he met and worked around including Pat Morita. He was a kind and gentle soul, and a good father to his two sons Kent and Kevin. He was a proud American and supported various veteran organizations. He was a pilot in the 50’s, and flew his last flight in 1960. He especially loved flying the P51 Mustang, He will be remembered for his tremendous capacity to love all those around him and his sense of humor. Al is preceded in death by his parents Al and Bertha, and his brother George Leslie Sandoval. He is survived by his first wife and mother of his sons, Patricia H. Cox, of Sacramento, and his second wife Roxanne Babb, of Idaho; children Kent (wife Cynthia) and Kevin; step-brother Lloyd Spooner and many cousins and family in California, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, July 26, from 10:00am – 2:00pm at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd in Sacramento. Graveside services to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Veteran’s Association of your choice.
