She was born in South Pittsburg, TN on May 16, 1929, the daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Merrill) Niles. The depression prompted the Niles family of five to return to Rumford in 1931, where Marilyn attended school and graduated with the class of 1947.
After graduation, Marilyn worked at Cormier’s Bookstore on Congress Street, taking the nickel bus into town. She met the love of her life, Norman, and they married on Aug. 2, 1948. After 5 years, she left Cornier’s to begin her family and focus on raising her children.
She returned to work at Dyer’s Electronics and retired in 1988. After retiring, she and Norman traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and enjoyed several cruises.
Marilyn was an avid knitter, sharing afghans and dish cloths with family and friends. She loved “going to the game”, cheering and coaching the Patriots and Red Sox from the comfort of her chair. She looked forward to eating out on Sat. nights, often ending the evening enjoying the jam session at the Snowshoe Club. She lived a genuine, positive and loving life.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter Sharon (Dyer) Muhilly of Buxton, Beverly (Dyer) Dunton and husband Larry of Limington, Wayne Dyer and wife Karen of Durham, NH, Linda (Dyer) Rao and husband Bob of Casco, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, twin sister Faye (Niles) Hale and husband Bill of Augusta, sister Marguerite (Niles) Welch of Rumford, brother-in-law Ken Dyer and wife Pat and brother-in-law Leo Dyer of Mexico.
Marilyn is predeceased by her husband Norman and infant son Greg.
As Marilyn would say “I’m so lucky” but all who have known her are the lucky ones.
In lieu of flowers donations in Marilyn’s memory can be made to the Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice
