He was born in Rumford on September 2, 1930 a son of Aurele and Lucy (Richard) Roy. Leonard was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1948.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he was a full time fireman with the Rumford Fire Department, a job he truly loved. He then went to work for H.P Hood, and worked there for many years.
At the age of 55, Leonard went back to school to get his Master Oil Burner Technician License. He was employed with Dead River Oil Company until retiring to care for his beloved wife Dorothy.
He was a Communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior.
Leonard was a member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He was also a member of the Rumford-Mexico Horseshoe Club where he won many tournaments and trophies.
Leonard was an avid hunter and fisherman and Boston Red Sox fan.
He also loved gardening, feeding the birds, and making up songs about his family and friends.
Leonard will be remembered for his Chaud along with the wine he made with his son Mark.
Surviving are his five children; Debra Roy of Vassalboro, ME., Leonard Roy Jr. and wife Terri of Falmouth, ME., Wendy Skaff of Cape Coral, FL., Sandra Roy of South Paris, ME., Mark Roy of North Windham, ME., sister Barbara Doherty of Rumford, ME., brothers; Richard Roy and wife Joan of Arizona, James Roy and wife Vivian of Dixfield, ME., Jay Roy and wife Tammy of Texas, five grandchildren; Michael Dugas, Kristi Dugas and fiance John Small, Jacob Skaff, Chelsea Skaff, Brandon Skaff, great-grandchildren; Kathryn Small and Lily-Anne Small, and a special friend, Ann Dawson.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, his wife Dorothy, and brothers; Ernest Roy and Ronald Roy.
