Thomas (“Tom”) Stanley Smolack, 75, of Roswell Ga, had a membership at Bally’s Gym in Woodstock, GA until the gym was acquired by LA Fitness sometime in November 2011. At that time, Tom’s membership was converted to a “life status” and remained that way until November 28, 2020 when he was unexpectedly pulled northward after receiving a call to perform a new line of work. Coinciding with the date of the move, his gym membership was immediately converted to a “New Life” membership when he joined a fitness center located somewhere behind The Pearly Gates in Heaven, Universe (no zip code available). Consistent with his previous membership, this “New Life” membership was established for life and remains to this day and into perpetuity.
As the only child, Tom was born in Waterbury, CT on August 12, 1945 to his loving parents, Anne and Stanley Smolack (both now deceased). In 1963 or so, Tom attended and later graduated from Southern Connecticut State College where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Following graduation, while still residing in CT, he became a public school Physical Fitness teacher until 1968 before he and his parents moved to Vero Beach, FL. They remained there until 1971 before moving to Roswell, Georgia. While in GA, Tom dutifully worked for Federal Express until his occupational retirement. His personal passion continued on, however.
In Roswell, Tom was widely known for working out in the gym three or four times a day and seven days a week, thus earning him the respectful reputation of being the Godfather of the Gym.
It is not entirely clear what Tom’s new line of work will entail, but those who know him best are certain that he will be watching over legions of angels while they do their squats, curls and bench pressing until perfection is achieved, all the while missing the steady and loving conversations from earlier days with cousin Nancy and best buddy Scott.
Those wishing to stay in contact with Tom, are asked to send no less than what they deem appropriate straight away to Emory University’s Parkinson’s Research Program, so that those who follow have a greater chance than did he of being cured. All replies will be personal and direct to the heart.
