Thomas Birdo Marsh (Tom) of Roswell, GA passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at the age of 74. Tom was born in Mariemont, OH on February 2, 1942. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Ellen Marsh and his two daughters, Leslie Ellen Thomas (Dale) and Erin Elizabeth Nichols, granddaughter Cameron Ellen Nichols, sister Sally Hill and brother Daniel E. Marsh (Sharon). He was preceded in death by his parents, Birdo and Sara Frances Marsh.
Tom spent his childhood in Terrace Park, OH and was a National Merit Scholar at Mariemont High School, Class of 1959. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a Business/Accounting degree where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. Tom played baseball for the Miami Redskins for four years on a baseball scholarship and maintained a consistent .300 + batting average. He then went on to the University of Cincinnati where he earned his MBA. Tom met his wife Joan, at Miami and they were married on July 11, 1964. He started his marketing career at Campbell’s Soup and moved on to Brunswick Corporation and later Leslie-Locke Co., which brought him and his family to Atlanta in 1982. Throughout his career he traveled extensively through Asia, Europe and South America.
Tom enjoyed spending his time playing golf, tennis, building model trains, coaching youth sports, stamp collecting, designing and completing home improvement projects (extreme decking), and chronicling travel and family activities. Tom also had a deep interest in American History and visited all of the presidential libraries. Once retired, he and Joan travelled extensively throughout the US visiting National Parks, all 50 state capitals and their daughters in Colorado and Alaska with their beloved dog. They most recently enjoyed a 10 day trip to London.
Tom was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and son who always treasured and valued his family.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. Visitation will take place at 1:00 pm followed by a 2:00 pm service officiated by Reverend Harry Hawkins.
