Ronald William Shaw was born in Stockton-on-Tees, England to Thomas and Minerva Shaw. He grew up in Yorkshire, England with his younger brother, Colin. He proudly served three years in the British Army, and married his childhood sweetheart, Mavis Thompson in 1954. Ron and Mavis had two much-loved children, daughter Jackie and son David.
After leaving the forces, Ron started his professional career as a draughtsman. In 1962, the family made the big move across the Atlantic to the USA, traveling aboard the Queen Mary. Ron continued working as a draftsman at Augusta Iron Works. With diligence and talent for business, Ron spent the next fifty years working his way up the corporate ladder to become CEO of Cives Corporation, and ultimately Chairman of the Board.
Ron was exceedingly delighted by the addition of grandchildren into his life over the years - Aimee (husband Jonathan), Olivia, Katherine (husband Steve), Jonathan (wife Savannah), and Jordan were all warmly welcomed into the Shaw family.
Ron was happily married to Mavis until her passing in 2012. To even his surprise, at the age of 81 years, Ron found true love again with Betty Dunning, and they married in late 2013. Ron and Betty had a lovely life together until she passed away in 2021.
Ron was a devoted husband to both Mavis and Betty, and he was dedicated in the amazing care he gave both of them in their final days. He also deeply mourned the loss of his dear daughter, Jackie, in 2008.
Ron was not just a good businessman, husband, and family man, he also enjoyed other hobbies and interests. He was an avid bridge player and took much pleasure working in his garden. His English roses were always a particular favorite. He enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball, both on television and going to the occasional game. Ron loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Ron was a lifelong, devoted Episcopalian, and volunteered his time and talents in many ways over the years, including the Stewardship and the Finance committees, the Endowment Ministry, and delivering altar flowers to parishioners after services. Ron was a generous man throughout his life and shared the blessings he had been given. He developed many friends in both his personal and business life.
Ron will be greatly missed by his son David (wife Alison), his grandchildren, and other family and friends. He will be remembered fondly in our hearts forever.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 11:15 a.m at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell (1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, GA 30076)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Ron Shaw to St. David’s Episcopal Church.
