Robert "Bob" Bailey Humphries

Bob was a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his humor, appreciation of professional racing, love of fishing, taste for wine, and fondness of pulling legs.

He was drafted in 1967. He served as a combat infantryman of a mortar platoon in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One), receiving an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and his other military service awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his service in the army, Bob volunteered tirelessly for several veterans groups, including as one of the founding members of the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance, Chapter One, serving as its Vice President and President for 25 years, the Georgia Veterans Day Association, serving as its Vice President, President, and on its Board of Directors, the 16th Infantry Regiment Association, serving as its Treasurer, Vice President, and President receiving its recognition as an Emeritus Saltuarius Honorabilis (Distinguished Former Ranger) in 2015. He was also a life member of the Society of the First Infantry Division since 1995.

In his work life, he was a very successful salesman of custom fabrics to designers, interior decorators, and retailers. He was a sales rep that served territories in Texas, Louisiana, the Carolinas, and Georgia. He retired as a sales rep for the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce.

He met his beloved wife, Judith "Judy" Henderson, at Middle Georgia College, now University, before his enrollment in the University of South Vietnam. They married shortly following his return to the States in Lovejoy, Georgia in April 1969. Judy and Bob were blessed with a son, Bailey John Humphries, in 1984.

Bob's memory is treasured by his wife Judy and son Bailey, his brother J.D. (Pat) and sister Nancy (Everett), his nephews and nieces Chip Thomas (Stacey), Chuck Thomas (SieYeon), Josh Humphries (Katie), Laing Humphries, Lindsay Thomas, Brett Thomas, his 11 great nieces and nephews, as well as his many friends and fellow advocates for veterans.

Bob's departure from this world to the next leaves us poorer, but the world richer, until we meet him again.
