Richard Michael Mooney

Richard Michael Mooney was born November 3, 1937 in Manhattan NY to Ellen 'Nessie' O'Brien-Mooney and Alfred Mooney. His mother was the daughter of Richard O'Brien (Co. Wexford, Ireland) and Mary Kennedy (St.Johns, NL). Richard passed away at Emory University Hospital at 4:43am on Friday, May 4, 2018.

Richard had a full life of service, retiring after 30 years in the military from serving in Marines/Navy, Air Force and Army. He also worked and retired from Picatinny Arsenal in law enforcement as a Federal Police Officer and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of VFW and The American Legion.

Richards first job was as a delivery boy for Bergdorf Goodman and he also worked at the Daily News. He enjoyed sports, watching Nascar racing, Football, baseball and golf, but also enjoyed fishing and oil painting. He also was a boxer as a young man in the rings in NYC during the 50's. As a young father he also sold vitamins and kept a huge stock in the basement in Mcafee, NJ along with his fish tanks.

Richard beat the odds so many times in his 80 years! He survived meningitis as an infant, being tossed from a speeding car as a child in Canada during a summer visit with family, and a few health recoveries from various cancers and childhood sicknesses. Through it all, he maintained his good humor, happiness and trust in God Almighty. He was quick to smile and very slow to anger - he was a joy to all who knew him. He was a man who knew he was only human. He was quick to ask forgiveness and he found it hard to hold on to a grudge.

Richard is survived by his two siblings; Butch Mooney and Carol Mooney, his four daughters; Sue Ellen, Tina, Roxanne and Jamie Lynn and also numerous grandchildren: Thomas, Sara Jane, Anabelle, Nicholas, Richie and Bella, and also his estranged wife, Cvetanka. Dick was 'happy as hell' living with his daughter Roxanne Mooney, in Suwanee, GA and at the time of his death looked forward to many more years of painting and enjoying everyday life.

Richard and his daughter Roxanne also started PopRox Arts, a place to showcase their artwork as a Father/Daughter hobby and planned on continuing their Father/Daughter Art shows in the North Georgia area. Richard was so happy to have created this with his daughter and was very proud of their paintings. Richard sold many of these paintings during a few Art shows he held in Decatur, GA. Some of those paintings are now featured in the Gallery on the website: http://www.poproxarts.com - sadly, many of his paintings were lost in a house fire and many pictures of his artwork were lost.

Richard was a Catholic, who through his lifelong trust in Almighty God came to also trust in the teachings of Yeshua (Jesus) and formed an everlasting bond. We rejoice and have peace in the certainty that he was called home on May 4, 2018 and is now reunited with his parents and other loved ones in Heaven and can rest in peace.
