Mrs. Regina D Pieper (Jean) passed away peacefully Monday, October 3, 2022. Jean was born on August 6, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late William Willis Turner and Maria Anna Turner. After graduating from Pennypacker high school, Jean joined her father and brother in working for the Budd Company, a contract partner manufacturing World War II transport materials for the U.S. War Department. In Philadelphia, Jean met Harry Joseph Pieper, whom she married on December 10, 1946. Harry worked as a professional baseball player and was a talented trumpet player in Philadelphia ``Mainline” dance bands before beginning his career with Scripto, a pen and pencil manufacturer headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Their marriage was blessed with 12 children: Phyllis, Harry( Hank), Pamela, Mark, Gregory, Christopher, Alexandra, Lisa, Lois, Joel, Matthew and Paul. Harry was transferred from the New York City office to Scripto’s Atlanta headquarters in 1965. The family resided in Dunwoody where they first attended St. Jude's Church in Sandy Springs and then All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody.
Seeing all of her children attend college, Jean worked as a bridal consultant at Rich’s and also in real estate sales. Throughout her life Jean created oil paintings and her canvases grace many homes in Atlanta. Seeking inspiration from the masters, Jean traveled with her children to museums in England, France (where she attended French language classes at the Alliance Française in Paris), Germany, Belgium, Spain, Morocco, the Vatican, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, California and Hawaii. She was delighted when exhibits opened closer to home, assuring return visits.
Jean cared for Harry during his final illness until his passing on April 15, 1992. When her beloved sister, Marie Turner, needed care, Jean welcomed her to Jean’s Snellville home in 1994. They attended Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Lilburn Georgia. Marie’s funeral Mass was held there in November 1998.
Jean taught her children and grandchildren to strive for social justice and the well-being of their community. Many have made careers in public service or community protection and enrichment. All are active volunteers, following their parent’s example of unconditional love and unequivocal care for those less fortunate.
Jean’s frailty necessitated her move to Tender Care, a personal care home in Lawrenceville and at least one of her children visited every day over her five years in residence. The family wishes to thank Mary Emerich, Consuela Willis, Joan Criste and Rodika Iovuta for the compassionate care Jean received at Tender Care, as well as from her hospice nurse, Kristen SantaMaria.
Along with her parents, husband, and sister, Jean was preceded in death by her brother; William W. Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana. Jean is survived by her children: Phyllis Hamilton (Michael), Harry Pieper (Christie), Pamela Dodd (Rick), Mark Pieper (Pam), Gregory Pieper, Christopher Pieper (Christy), Alexandra Pieper Jones (Ray), Lisa Shubeck (Dave), Lois Bradford (Paul), Joel Pieper (Belinda), Matthew Pieper (Joe), and Paul Pieper; 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces; Patricia Sulouff and Barbara Lindhout and her sister-in-law; Ann Turner.
Monsignor Jim Schillinger will celebrate the funeral Mass honoring Jean’s life at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 801 Tom Smith Rd. SW, Lilburn, GA. at one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, October 17, 2022. Interment will take place directly after the Mass. Luncheon reception will follow for family and friends at the Saint John Neumann church hall.
