Nancy was a beloved wife to Frederick (Fred) Powers III, married in 1963 in Delmar, New York. They were known for their love and support for their extended family and enjoyment of world travel.
She was an avid dancer, starting at 5 years old and was a student teacher by age 12. She toured with the Guys & Dolls Musical during High School in New York. After graduation, she worked for a stock brokerage and ran regional customer service for A&P Grocery Chain. While Fred was in law school, Nancy was President of the Georgetown Spouse’s Club. Nancy supported her kids’ activities while Fred was in college and law school.
Throughout her adult life, Nancy dedicated her time to supporting others and leading charity and community groups. She’s renown for volunteering to be homeroom mom, sports team mom and driving her 5 kids to practices and meets. Nancy and Fred enjoyed that all their kids swam competitively and helped with tasks such as timing, judging, and awarding medals.
Nancy was an avid ALTA tennis player, and after years of practice she ascended to AA level. She volunteered as the primary administrator for the A-Level for all Atlanta Tennis events. Nancy later turned her interests to genealogy for her family, and then shared research strategies with local churches, communities and even lectured at Clemson University. She and Fred managed the volunteer scheduling for the Habitat for Humanity Store in Seneca, SC, for 3 years.
She will be deeply missed by Fred, their 5 children (Kathy Kitzmiller, Karen Haggerty, Brian Powers, Steven Powers, Ken Powers), 16 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, as well as her sister Margie Freiberg, sister-in-law Gretta Powers, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 16th at the Roswell Funeral Home in Roswell, Ga., to celebrate Nancy’s life and honor her contributions to our world.
