Mary Ellen Robson, age 57 of Roswell, Georgia, died May 5, 2017 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Originally from Long Island, New York, Mary found a love for sweet tea and southern charm during her more than 35 years living in Georgia, but never lost her New York edge. She loved to read, cook, and spend time with friends, but above all else, she loved her family. Known as “Mother Mary” to her friends and colleagues alike, she had a nurturing way about her that drew others in. Mary’s mantra was that “It’s all about the kids.” She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely, and touched the lives of countless others as an educator in Fulton County for 30 years, most recently serving as the principal of New Prospect Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Brian Robson, her daughter Meghan (Corey), sons Patrick (Kendra) and Dan, grandchildren Cole, Parker, and Lizzie, brothers Ed and John (Meg), mother-in-law Margo, father-in-law Jack, brother-in-law Bob, sister-in-law Debbie (Scott), and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 675 Riverside Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “It’s all about the kids”-the Mary Robson Literacy Enrichment Fund. Mary had great love and passion for New Prospect Elementary, her staff, the students, and their families. She had a clear vision for New Prospect and worked tirelessly to achieve her goals for the school. One such goal was to increase literacy among the students so they would be empowered by a solid foundation to serve them throughout the rest of their lives. Nothing would have made her happier than to have a lasting impact on the school and community she held so close to her heart. Please direct donations to New Prospect Elementary School, 3055 Kimball Bridge Road, Alpharetta, Georgia 30022, noting on the donation that it is for the Mary Robson Literacy Enrichment Fund.
