Mary Janette Moss

Mary grew up on a Centennial farm near Chicago, IL, attended a one-room country schoolhouse, and later was awarded a scholarship to Northern Illinois University. Despite her academic focus on home economics, Mary amusingly recognized that her cooking and housekeeping abilities didn't precisely match her chosen academic path.

At the age of 19, she married William (Bill) Francis Moss, with whom she shared a journey of love and partnership. Together, they raised two children, while he attended Georgia Tech. They later welcomed a third child while residing in Aurora, IL. Bill’s Engineering career took them to various places, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, Bettendorf, IA, South Bend, IN, and Dallas, TX.

Mary’s career spanned different cities as well, including roles at Sears and Roebuck on Ponce De Leon in Atlanta, Von Mauer’s in Davenport, IA, and Dillard’s in Dallas, TX, from where she eventually retired. After the passing of her husband, Bill, she relocated back to Atlanta (for the fourth time!), where she resided for the past 20 years with one of her daughters.

A passionate lover of antiques, Mary dedicated her time to tending to her booth at Queen of Hearts, in Alpharetta. She was also a talented artist, crafting and selling aprons, dog scarves, and paintings at local fairs. Her wicked sense of humor and deep appreciation of classic movies endeared her to family and friends alike.

Mary is survived by her children, Ted Moss (Janet), Sherrill Moss (Joseph Lawson), and Alana Moss. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Amanda (Donald Wright) and Brandon (Regina), as well as her great-grandchildren Savannah, Alexandra, and Mayya. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and son-in-law, Scot Femmer.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Roswell Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, with a reception in the Roswell Funeral Home event room. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet, Illinois, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to Furkids Animal Rescue (www.furkids.org). Her legacy of love, laughter, and creativity will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
