Jon was born to the late Carl and Florence Hellman on August 12, 1952 in Abington, Pa. He grew up in Margate, NJ near Atlantic City. Siblings are Daryl Hellman, Deena Hellman Whitfield, and twin brother Jay Hellman. Jon and Jay were quite the duo in the 70’s at the beach with their gardening business and long blond hair. In recent years they did some traveling together and always provided amusement and joy to those they encountered.
His memory will be cherished by family, friends, and business associates. Jon’s first real job brought him to Atlanta in 1977 as a young sales associate with Unionmutual. It didn’t take him long to earn the title “Rookie of the Year” as his work ethic and tenacity were second to none. He treated people fairly and honestly, and truly felt privileged to remain friends with so many business associates. He rose in the ranks of insurance sales and management with Canada Life, Liberty Mutual and Lincoln Financial.
Nothing made Jon happier than to be involved with his kids’ activities. Attending baseball and soccer games and cross country meets throughout the years were very important to him…and promoted quality time with kids in their formative years. He was especially delighted to assume his newest role of granddad and chose the name Pops. His generosity included hosting and planning family trips to England, Scotland, France, Italy, Costa Rica, and Canada.
Jon and Janet raised their family in the River Farm subdivision in Johns Creek and have been blessed to call so many of their neighbors true friends. This has been exceptionally true since Jon’s passing.
Surviving Jon is his devoted wife of thirty years Janet Hellman, sons Eric and Greg Hellman (Anna Hellman) and daughter Julia Hellman. Grandchildren Jayce Oakley, Asher, and Reese Hellman. He was a truly loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 11AM until 1:00 PM at Roswell Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 pm in Roswell’s Chapel. Committal and burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Promise of Gwinnett County (familypromisegwinnett.org) or Crossroads Campus in Nashville (crossroadscampus.org). The first organization helps families in true need get back on their feet and Crossroads also focuses on helping young people in distress and animals in need of adoption.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roswellfuneralhome.com for the Hellman family.
