Jerry Combee, son of the late Hazel and Hugh Combee of Atlanta, Georgia reposed in the Lord on December 27, 2023. He had a lengthy career in Higher Education as a professor, a writer and Administrator. Jerry was a graduate of Emory University and earned his doctorate from Cornell where his dissertation advisor was the late distinguished Allan Bloom. Jerry's field of study was Political Philosophy. He taught at Case Western Reserve University, Pensacola Christian College, Liberty University, where he was Dean of the School of Business and Government, Grove City College and Southern Catholic College. He had the honor of serving as President of Grove City College in Grove City, Pa. and later became President of Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND. His writing accomplishments include: Economic Justice In Perspective, Designed For Destiny, Democracy At Risk, Forward To Freedom and Nietzsche As Cosmologist. Jerry's final career contribution was his honor of serving as V.P. of Academic Affairs and Professor at Southern Catholic College.
Early in life Jerry was a musician playing lead guitar for the bands The Blue Notes and St. John and the Cardinals in the Atlanta area. He married Daneille Folmar in 1975 in Toccoa, Ga. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage and shared two wonderful children: the late Trevor Combee and cherished daughter Cara Combee Hunter, wife of much loved son-in-law, Matt Hunter. Jerry was a great thinker, a man of many talents. He was dedicated to his faith and a member of St. James Orthodox Church in Buford, GA, where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Burial will be at Roswell Funeral Home and Green Lawn Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved son, Trevor. Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife, children and extended family. Thanks be to God for his beautiful life of 79 years.
A funeral service for Jerry will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM at St. James Orthodox Church, 1651 Horizon Pkwy NE #400, Buford, GA 30518. Following the funeral service will be a burial ceremony at Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076.
