She is survived by her daughters, Susan Cutcliff (David) of Montclair, VA, Alison Songer (Mark) of Chattanooga, TN and Carol Gadd (Joshua) of Roswell, GA. Grandchildren include Emily, Luke and Ashly Cutcliff, Nathan Songer, Paxton Alexander, her brother James Hart of Lake Junaluska, NC and several nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was married to Charles (Jerry) Tedford for 55 years until his death in 2012.
After being an education assistant in churches, she became a teacher in Huntsville, Alabama and then worked for International School Services in Pakistan, Iran, and Scotland.
In 1980, Janice moved to Atlanta with her family and taught third grade at Woodland Elementary School in Fulton County for 17 years. After retiring from teaching, Janice volunteered for the Friends of the Roswell Library and served in several capacities for 20 years. She wrote several books including The History of The Roswell Library and its Volunteers and A Peach Tree and a Railroad; a Children’s History of Atlanta. Janice was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the office of the President of the United States in 2014, and a Twenty-Year Volunteer Service Award by the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System in 2017. he family will have a visitation at the Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia on November 11, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm. Her ashes will be interred later at the Holston Conference Cemetery at Emory and Henry College, Emory, VA.
