Janice Ann Cook returned to her Heavenly Father on August 28, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Janice (Jan) was welcomed into the world on December 7, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by Leopoldo (Paul) Liscio and Pauline Wirgonovicz Liscio as well as big brother Paul. Jan grew up on Blackadore Avenue where she spent summers playing in the woods, riding bikes, roller skating and trying out new “tricks” on the backyard swing set.
She was born in an era where “a hard day’s work for a hard day’s pay” was instilled in every child. This served her well throughout her life.
Jan moved to Long Beach, California in her early twenties where her sweet Laura was born. She eventually moved to the East Coast, settling in Portland, Maine where she loved to spend Saturdays with Laura on Crescent Beach.
A career change moved her to Baltimore Maryland and then she finally settled down in Georgia where she made many more dear friends. These friends have been a strength and comfort to her throughout her life and continue to be to Laura and Jan’s family since her passing. May these friends be continually blessed for their unconditional love and kindness.
Jan’s love for animals was very evident and many furry friends found homes with her. They included Josie (rescue), Ozzie, Molly Dog (rescue), J.D. (rescue), Jane (rescue), Mongo (rescue), and Molly Girl (rescue). As well, Jan was an avid volunteer and benefactor to “For the Love of a Horse” and helped raise funds for rescued horses through golf tournaments, bowling tournaments, garage sales and jewelry sales
Jan is survived by her daughter, Laura, her sister Diane Bonyai (Mrs. Lee Bonyai), Utah, as well as nephews Justin Bonyai (Utah) and Jordan Bonyai (Utah).
She was predeceased by her parents, Leopoldo and Pauline, brother Paul, and many aunts and uncles and grandparents who welcomed her to their heavenly home.
Arrangements under the direction of Roswell Funeral Home, Roswell, GA.
