James Thomas, a man deeply rooted in the soil of his upbringing, passed away on December 1st, 2023 at the age of 73. Born and raised on his family’s farm, James embraced the values of hard work, resilience, and a profound connection to the land.
James, a proud product of Roswell, Georgia, entered the world on March 29th, 1950, bringing joy to his parents, Livingston and Sarah Thomas. From an early age, it was evident that James was destined for greatness. He attended Roswell High School, where he left an indelible mark as a standout athlete. He was later one of the first inductees into the Roswell Hall of Fame.
His passion for sports, earned him admiration from peers and coaches alike. Due to his hard work he was offered seven scholarships and attended LaSalle College in Pennsylvania. There he met his wife at a Penn State mixer in 1969. After college he worked in commercial grading and when his father passed in 1988, he decided to return back to his roots and become a farmer as well.
Beyond his achievements as a farmer, James was a loving husband to his wife of 51 years, Ursula, a devoted father to his children Jennifer Thomas (Chris) Darnell, and Jeff (Carissa) Thomas, and a loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Wyatt, Noah, Cooper, Kylie, and Dani. He was also loved by his sister, Evelyn Grant, and brother, Jerry Thomas. His family was the heartbeat of his existence, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
James Thomas will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to everyone he encountered. His legacy lives on in the golden fields he tended, the community he enriched, and the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
A celebration of James' life will be held on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023 at the Roswell Funeral Home located at 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Heart Association or St. Jude. James' memory will forever linger in the rustling leaves, the fertile soil, and the hearts of those who loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the fields he cherished and the love he sowed.
James will be laid to rest in Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076.
