Mr. Jack William Wagner, age 75, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away Monday, October 18, 2021. Jack was born on March 30, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of the late Jack Humphrey Wagner and Betty Jane Bowker Wagner.
Growing up, Jack’s family moved frequently, living in Iowa, Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, and North Carolina. He first met his future wife, Nancy Smith, on a blind date in 1971 at a Charlotte Checkers hockey game, and they continued dating until their marriage in Greenville, South Carolina on August 28, 1971. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Katie, Matthew, and David.
Jack worked his career as a dental equipment salesman, and he was known for his warm sense of humor that brought people together and helped them feel at ease wherever he went. His greatest joy was found in spending time with his family, whether vacationing at the beach or in the mountains of North Carolina, going on hikes and camping, or simply sitting and spending an afternoon with them at home. Jack had an inquisitive theological mind, and he wanted to learn more about God, the Bible, and faith. He prayed daily, attended St. David’s Episcopal Church regularly for nearly 40 years, and especially enjoyed attending Bible Study classes. He loved to get good barbeque with his friends. He was a golfer and loved playing with his sons. He loved dogs, especially his dog Mollie, and always offered to look after his children’s dogs whenever it was needed. He constantly made sure the people he loved were taken care of, even when it meant going out of his way to help a family member or friend. He spoiled his grandkids Emily, Hayes, and Henry, and brought laughter out of them more easily than anyone else could. When dealing with customers, he built relationships with them and prioritized their needs. When meeting someone new, he asked questions to learn about them and quickly get to know them. He loved to tell stories, fix things, and put away the dishes at the end of the night. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, and his presence – even in his later years when his health was in decline – was great among those with whom he shared it.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Betty Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Katie Sailors of Alpharetta; and his twin sons, Matthew and David Wagner and his wife Kathleen, all of Atlanta; his grandchildren, Emily Sailors, and Hayes and Henry Wagner (daughter and son to David and Kathleen); and his brothers, Steve Wagner of Cumming, Georgia and Jim Wagner of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The funeral service for Jack will take place at 2:00 on the afternoon of Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell, Georgia with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack's memory to Mikell Camp and Conference Center (Toccoa, GA), The Winship Cancer Institute (Johns Creek), or St. David's Episcopal Church (Roswell).
