Mrs. Bond was born in Dawson, Georgia and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II. She was an adoption worker at the Child Service Association for nine years and retired from the Brook Run Center for Developmentally Disabled Children and Adults in Dunwoody where she was Unit Director for eleven years.
She was a longtime committed Sunday school teacher impacting the lives of children and adults and served as one of the first female deacons of Johns Creek Baptist Church. Her passion for serving others also included the role of volunteer coordinator for the food pantry program in the Chamblee Doraville area for many years.
Mrs. Bond held both an Undergraduate and a Master’s degree from the University of Georgia in Social Work. Over her 99 years, Mrs. Bond’s volunteer service, education, and career impacted the lives of not only her family but countless others.
She is survived by her daughters: Bonnie (Ken) Rushlow of Hermitage, TN, Judy (Larry) Hansard of Marietta, GA, Carol Andrews of Paradise, TX, daughter-in-law Carol Bond Gerber (Richmond, TX), eight grandchildren (Ward Bond, Donald Bond, Brad Andrews, Steve Andrews, Whitney Simpson, Courtney Youngs, Ivey Chaney, Findley Ballance), 18 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephew, and countless cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Samuel Jones and Alice Moreland Jones, 11 brothers and sisters, her husband, Howard Whitfield Bond, Sr., and son, Howard Whitfield Bond, Jr.
A private burial is being held with a celebration of life to follow later in 2021. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Johns Creek Baptist Church.
