Altheida was born in Chicago, Illinois to Clifford Sims and Helen Holliday.
After spending time in foster care, she worked managing the books for a furniture store in Chicago Illinois before she met her late husband, Curtis Mayfield. They were blessed with over 26 years of marriage. Together, they loved and nurtured six beautiful children. Altheida became the primary care-taker of her husband after an accident in 1990 left him a quadriplegic. After caring for her husband in his final days, she worked as the Trustee and Administrator of the Curtis Mayfield Estate in 1999. In 2004, She founded the “Curtis Mayfield Foundation” in order to bless less fortunate students with music scholarships to help start their careers. The bond they shared opened so many doors for everyone around them.
Altheida was a very kind, generous, and tender soul. An amazing wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. A phenomenal woman she was, leaving an everlasting impact on their lives. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her family and friends will forever remember her for her caring and loving spirit. Altheida was such a joy to be around.
Altheida Mayfield is preceded in death by her parents and loving husband.
She is survived by her three daughters; Carol Wallace, Timfany Mayfield, and Lena Mayfield; Daughter-in-law Inise Mayfield; four sons: Kirk Mayfield, LiBrian Mayfield, Cheaa Mayfield, and Blaise Mayfield; 15 grandchildren: William Bowles, Tre- Erica Wallace, Michael Mayfield, Curtis Mayfield, Isis Mayfield, Jaikayla Clarke, Evan Rubin, Taylor Scott, Elliot Rubin, LiBrian”Kalie” Mayfield, Ryder Brown, Charlotte& Isabelle Mayfield, Kirk Mayfield Jr., and Emory Edwards and a host of family and friends.
A private service will be held at Roswell Funeral Home for family and close friends.
