Ruth Mathews

Ruth (Kilburn) Mathews was peacefully called home on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the age of 85. Ruth was born in Waverly, TN to John and Florence Kilburn . She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Mathews, Sr. They spent most of their marriage as residents of Roseville, MI. Ruth was the loving Mother to Janice DiFilippo, the late Richard, Jr., James, and Edna (Matthew) Gish. She was the doting Granny/Nana to Deanna (Mark) Eichenlaub, Brendon (Amanda) DiFilippo, Alyssa (Kevin) Bault, and Ava Gish, and step grandmother to Sarah and Emily. She was the fun-loving Great Granny to Anya and Kira Eichenlaub and Gavin and Colin Bault. Her family will grow this year as we welcome her grandson-in-law, Justin Oliver, and great grandchildren, Emery and Enzo DiFilippo.

Ruth was a homemaker and was known in the family for her incredible cooking, especially her biscuits and cornbread. Christmas Eve was celebrated at her home, where she was surrounded by family and fun. Ruth was timeless, always seen with her red hair and a pop of lipstick, with a beautiful laugh. She loved the Detroit Tigers and scratch-off lottery tickets. Her grandchildren warmly remember sleepovers at her house and flipping pancakes to the ceiling! But more than anything, Ruth left a legacy of love and devotion to her husband that will never be forgotten.

Ruth also leaves behind a large extended family of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews, in Tennessee, that will miss her.
