Margaret Grover, born February 27, 1962. Mother of four wonderful hard working boys and two beautiful daughter in laws (Bill and Dani, Jim, Jerry, and Will and Steph), grandmother to four amazing grandchildren (Aidan, Emma,Caroline, and Lincoln). She was also beloved spouse of Bill Servo for the last 33 years. Delightful daughter of Lora and Peter Mistretta and wonderful sister to Josie, Rosie, Grace, Jim, and Vito.
Margaret “Mickey” Grover was a soul brought to this earth to spread Joy, wonder, and kindness to all she came across. Mickey was a presence that could light up a room, bring a laugh to any crowd, and sometimes had people guessing if the things she said even made sense. But, she said things with such confidence that everyone would just brush off her craziness because they knew no matter what, she meant well and she was always just trying to catch a smile or laugh. She was always the one who would remind you that you don’t have to take life extremely serious everyday. Life is a journey and you should love it and enjoy it even if you don’t have much. She was a walking talking example of gratitude and fun.
She worked in the service industry for over twenty years in multiple restaurants helping each table as if it were her own family sitting there enjoying a meal. She then applied that same effort and energy when she worked the front counter of East Detroit Bakery helping all the locals get their baked goods for their events for another decade. She made such an impression on others, that no matter where we went she would always run into someone she knew and they would always be happy to see her. She was an angel without her wings.
She adored spending time with her grandchildren, her boys and she loved spending time with Bill. She was always one to entertain and barbecue for the whole neighborhood if she could. You would never go hungry if momma Mickey was around.
Mickey always had a lot of crazy quotes, so it is hard to pinpoint which one to use in her final goodbye to all of us, so we will just use the one she said when people moved on to bigger and better things in their journey.
“New beginnings.”
As we move forward in our lives without Mickey, we experience a new beginning ourselves. One that is not as bright or joyful without her in it. But one that helps us grow and learn from all that she has taught us. Be fun, be courageous, be kind and give. Because giving is the gift that keeps giving. We are all going to miss her very much, and our worlds will not be the same without her in it. May she rest in peace and watch over us in our time here.
