Robert T. Wilson, known to family and friends as either Roy or Bob, passed away peacefully in Orangevale, California, on August 27, 2023. He was 88. Roy was born on July 10, 1935 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was married for over 62 years to his wife Rosemary Wilson. He is survived by his wife and his children Colleen Kemper and her husband Kevin Kemper of Granite Bay; Glynis Wilson and her husband Peter Levrini of Orangevale; Gayle Wilson of San Francisco; and Andrew Wilson and his wife Emily Wilson of Sarasota Florida; his grandchildren Zach Hazel, Tyler and Shelby Levrini, Exene Black, and Christopher and Daniel Wilson; and great grandchildren Mia Del Buono and Parker Hazel.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Mary Wilson of Belfast, Northern Ireland, as well as his siblings Eileen Wilson, Norma McCauley, Hugh Wilson, and Jean Curry.
Roy grew up in Ireland and after the war worked in the Harland and Wolff shipyard as a young man. He was one of several generations who had worked as ship builders including his grandfather David Wilson who had helped to build the Titanic.
Roy immigrated from Ireland to California shortly after his marriage to Rosemary in 1960, and began working at Hewlett Packard shortly thereafter. He was to spend his entire career with HP until his retirement many years later.
Roy loved reading, movies, and traveling. He was a devoted father and spent many summers taking his family on road trips throughout the southwestern United States and beyond. After retiring he discovered a passion for cruises and spent nearly all of his remaining years traveling the world with Rosemary. This would include many (non-cruise) trips back to Ireland to visit with family and friends. Roy was also a gifted natural singer and was known for his repertoire of Irish folksongs.
He was a delight to all who met him, and loved by many. A Celebration of Life for this lovely man is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th at 1:00 at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville, California. A reception immediately following will be held at the home of his daughter Colleen Kemper.
