Larry was born on July 19, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois to Kenneth & Agnes (Loy) Lynch and is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eugene Lynch.
When Larry was 12 years old, his family moved from Illinois to Sacramento, where Larry grew up with his siblings Gene and Patty. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1954 and earned a degree in Mathematics from Sacramento State University in 1959. To pay for college, Larry began working at one of the first Raley’s grocery stores in Sacramento. One day, while working in 1956, he noticed a shopper, Kathleen DiPinto. A conversation began where they discovered a shared class at Sac State. They were married in the summer of 1957 while Larry was still in school and working full time at Raley’s. Shortly before graduating, Larry was offered a job with Aerojet where he was assigned to the rocket testing lab. He later began training with IBM consultants in a new skill called computer systems programming.
Larry and Kathleen welcomed four children while living in Sacramento. In the summer of 1969, the family moved to southern California, where Larry began working for Boothe Resources Intl. He was transferred to their new San Francisco office on the 50th floor of the Bank of America building in 1972, and the family settled in Walnut Creek. Shortly thereafter, when Boothe shifted towards the computer hardware business, Larry decided he had an opportunity on the software side. Able to keep the code he wrote at Boothe, he set out on his own and started BMS Computer. He brought home an electric typewriter and with Kathleen’s help, they started a business in 1973. Long before it was cool, they worked out of their home in Walnut Creek for the next eight years selling and improving the Mainframe Chargeback System Larry developed. After 18 years in Walnut Creek, Larry and Kathleen (and the business) moved to Newcastle, CA in 1990. Along with Larry’s eldest son, who was already working at BMS, his other two sons and son-in-law joined during the early 90’s. The family business continued to grow until it was eventually sold. Larry retired in 2006 and together with his family and friends, celebrated a wonderful career. Larry and Kathleen enjoyed a trip around the world and relaxed at their Lake Tahoe home. Family trips, Oakland A's baseball and time spent with grandchildren kept him busy. Larry and Kathleen enjoyed countless sporting, school and extracurricular events and celebrated each and every milestone of their growing family.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kathleen; sister Patricia Quinn; children Ken Lynch (Carolyn), Michael Lynch (Judith), Lynda Howard (Greg), and Mark Lynch (Kellie); grandchildren Leanna Nixon (Scottie), Lawrence Lynch, Rebecca Howard (Ericka), Kenny Lynch, Jeff Howard, Kristin Howard, Nick Lynch, Noelle Lynch, Katie Lynch, Joey Lynch; great-granddaughter Lael Nixon, and many relatives.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 17th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Marello Catholic Church, 7200 Auburn Folsom Rd in Granite Bay, CA. A reception will follow at Granite Bay Country Club, 9600 Golf Club Rd in Granite Bay. Burial in Newcastle is private.
