Happily married to his loving wife Erna for 67 years, father to Joe Jr., beloved daughters Lorrie Harley and Jennifer Bruneel and sons Thomas and Michael. Deeply loved this two daughters-in-law Patricia and Michelle and son-in-laws Herb Hartley and Mike Bruneel. Loving grandfather to Anthony Vicory, Taylor Ojeda, Reina Vicory, Vanessaa Ojeda, Adriana Ojeda; great-grandfather to Christopher Vicory, Analisa & Navea Lopez.
Used his GI Bill benefits to attend General Motors School in San Leandro, CA and graduated with a “Doctorate of Motors” in all phases of automotive repair work. Opened his first Texaco service station in 1950 before opening two additional Chevron and Texaco stations located on Sunrise and Madison Avenue in Citrus Heights. After selling his service stations in 1977, worked for United Parcel Service for ten years before when he retired in 1987. Built a new home in Roseville and spent his time gardening and creating a sanitary of exotic plants in his yard.
After receiving his mother’s written permission, enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served as an Infantryman in the Fourth Marine Division. At seventeen, was one of the youngest soldiers on first wave assaults of Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. Received two Presidential Unit Citations for those three battles and a Purple Heart after being injured on Iwo Jima with a cerebral concussion.
Service will be held Thursday, October 6, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at Lamberts Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd. Roseville, CA 95678. Military Honors will be held at Roseville Cemetery immediately following service. Friends and Family are invited to a lunch reception following the burial at the Polish American Hall: 327 Main Street, Roseville, CA 95678 1:00 - 3:00 PM
