Mrs. Scoggins was born in Cedartown on June 29, 1948, the daughter of the late Melton Smith and Helen Elrod Smith Stewart.
Mrs. Scoggins retired as a vice-president with State Mutual Insurance Company after 30 years. She attended Shorter College and worked in the registrar’s office while in school. She completed her LOMA certification, was a member of the Exchange Club of Rome, and was active in the Relay for Life. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Gordon Scoggins, Jr., to whom she was married July 8, 1967; one son, Gordon Scoggins, and his wife, Jennifer, Rome; one daughter, Camille Scoggins Rush, Rome; six grandchildren, Mitchell, Mabrey, McCartney, Madison and Marly Scoggins, and Jack Rush; and two sisters, Sandra Bratcher, and her husband, David, Silver Creek, and Dr. Jennifer Stewart-Ellett, and her husband, John, Richmond, VA.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 3, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, Silver Creek, with Dr. Philip May and the Rev. Billy Fricks officiating. Interment followed in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Chuck Scoggins, Mitchell Scoggins, Stewart Bratcher, Herman Brock, Wayne Davis and Greg Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Brinson, Joe Brock, Paul Granger, Joel Denney, Jeremy Powell and Sam Mize. All are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 p.m. Monday.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, October 2, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other hours at the residence of the son, 54 Mountain Chase Dr.
