John Martin Karlovich, age 99, died on January 13, 2025. He was born on 26 May 1925, in Chicago, to John Karlovich and Nellie Klapp Karlovich. John’s Father was an immigrant from Croatia and his Mother was the first in her family to be born in this country. They came from the Netherlands. His wife, Mary E. Barrett and a son Jesse, preceded in death. Survivors include three sons, John Jr. and Jerry in Texas and James in Kingston, GA; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In 1942 he quit high school and joined the Navy to engage in WW2. He spent two and a half years at Pearl Harbor and was discharged in 1946 after having served four years. He started flying while attending school and graduated as an aeronautical engineer. He worked in aerospace briefly and then during the Korean War became a flight instructor for the US Air Force. In 1952 he was hired to fly for a major airline and retired in 1985 at the mandatory age of sixty.
The body will be cremated and Daniel’s Funeral Home is in charge. There will not be a service.
