Jean Momon Evans of Rome, Georgia passed from this life on July 2, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Samuel W. Evans, three sons, 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The sons are Rick and Kim Evans, Augusta, Chris Evans, Rome, and David and Amanda Evans, Rome. The fifteen grandchildren include Brant and Ashley Evans, Rome, Ansley and Jonathan Crawford, Augusta, Will and Natalie Evans, Augusta, Melissa Evans, Rome, Taylor and Destinee Evans, Rome, Rachael and Tyler Ward, Rome, Cooper and Erin Evans, Rome, Jacob and Emmy Evans, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Grayson and Andrew Green, Rome, Tyler Evans, Jacksonville Florida, Eli Evans, Jacksonville Florida, Sarah Joy Evans, Rome, Rosie Evans, Rome, Seve Evans, Rome and Kelsea Evans, Rome. She is also survived by her sister, Reatha Momon Dempsey, Cave Spring, sister-in-law, Merle Evans, Rome, aunt Loraine Momon, Rome and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Guy Bennett Momon, her mother, Lillian Camp Momon, her maternal grandparents, William Mason and Della Hill Camp; and her paternal grandparents, Jesse Walton and Emma Bennett Momon.
Jean was a graduate of Cave Spring High School where she was her class Valedictorian. She attended Tift College and Berry College. Ending a thirty-year career in textiles, she retired from Shaw Industries, Dalton, Georgia where she held the position of Manager/Contract and Residential Advertising. In 1968 she was recognized for her religious, civic and volunteerism commitments in the 1968 edition of “Outstanding Young Women of America”.
Her life was filled with wonderful experiences at Trinity Methodist Church, Rome. A member since 1965, she served in several capacities including: a member of the chancel choir, director of the children’s choir, President of the Methodist Women and President of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She also served on various work area committees that included Staff/Parish Relations, Stewardship and the Administrative Council.
Civic and volunteerism commitments included many years of service to the Rome Jaycees; who awarded her with their Presidential Award of Honor for her work with their auxiliary members. She volunteered with the Exchange Club of Rome in the Family Resource Center for the prevention of child abuse and the Rome Community Kitchen.
She said she was always delighted to hear the phrase “let’s all go for some homemade ice cream at Nana and Papa’s house”. She loved entertaining and feeding her many family members.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to the many staff members of The Spires at Berry College and Heyman Hospice Care who treated her with love and care as if she were family.
