Mrs. Lumpkin was born in Montgomery, AL, on June 7, 1927, and grew up in Rome, the daughter of the late Cecil Raymond Chambers and Nettie Bell Russell Chambers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil Roy Chambers, Robert Russell Chambers, Russell Donald Chambers, Charles Norton Chambers and Raymond Lee Chambers. She was the only high school graduate while her brothers worked.
Mrs. Lumpkin was employed by Galey and Lord as a payroll clerk. She loved the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, and was a member of the Callier Springs Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She enjoyed casinos in Tunica, MS, Biloxi, MS, and Cherokee, NC. She had been very active until recent ill health.
Survivors include one son, Scotty Curtis Lumpkin, and his wife, Crystal, Woodstock; one daughter, Brenda Lumpkin Meeker, Cedartown; grandchildren, Brandy McBryde, Ty Garrett, Christopher Lumpkin, Shasta Meeker, Philantae Lumpkin; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome, with Eddie Lowery officiating. Interment will be in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ty Garrett, Tracey Rogers, Jimmy Rogers and Tony Green.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Friday, September 30, 2011, from 1 until 2 p.m.
