Jack was born October 12, 1929 in Polk County, GA. He was the son of the late Lena Christine Bridges and Curtis Ishmel Ott. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Bessie Elizabeth Branton Ott, by brothers Joseph Delano Bridges, Charles Bryant Bridges, Richard Ott and Gary Ott, a sister Peggy Joyce Bridges, and stepfather E. D. Bridges.
He is survived by two daughters Jackie Sweitzer (David) and Pam Greenwood, one son Steve Ott (Terri), the special joys of his life his 8 grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as Pop, Lt. Col. Retired Wesley Sweitzer (Emily), Jeffrey Sweitzer (Amanda), August Miller (Brent), Kim Greenwood, Philip Greenwood, Adam Greenwood (Michelle), Becky Scott, and Patrick Ott (Amanda), and 11 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jake & Ava Miller, Ethan, Alex & Jamie Greenwood, Macy Scott, Benjamin, Mary Helen, Rainey and Samuel Sweitzer, a sister in law Shelly Bridges, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack retired from Georgia Power Company after 37 years of employment. At the time of his retirement, he was a Senior Regional Marketing Representative. Following their retirement, he and Bessie enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. Together they logged many miles, including memorable trips to Alaska and Nova Scotia. Jack served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps/U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Corporal. He had previously held the position of President of the Georgia Power Ambassador’s Club and Treasurer and member of Board of Directors of the Georgia Power Credit Union.
The family would like to thank the staff of Riverwood Retirement Center and Seven Hills Place for their wonderful care while he was a resident there. We would also like to thank Heyman Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days.
Services will be held Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Daniel’s Funeral Home, 901 East Second Avenue, Rome, GA. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel. Interment, beside his beloved wife, will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens at a later date.
