Mr. Brumbelow was a life-long resident of Floyd County and was the son of the late Carl W. Brumbelow and Ethel (Smith) Brumbelow. He was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ. He retired from General Electric Co. in 1993 after 40 years of service. Mr. Brumbelow graduated from McHenry High School where he was an outstanding athlete and was selected for Georgia’s All-State Football team. After graduation, he continued his athletic career, participating in local basketball and softball leagues and coaching youth teams. He was an avid golfer until the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Aleen (Edge) Brumbelow; two children, a daughter, Sylvia Bernstein and her companion Steve Gaffney of Atlanta, and a son, Randy Brumbelow and his wife Lynn of Hagerstown, Maryland; two granddaughters, Danielle Bernstein and Sarah Glenn Bernstein, one great-granddaughter, Penelope Maris, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two siblings, Shirley Willis of Lindale and Jerry Brumbelow of Calhoun. He was preceded in death by his brother Darrell Brumbelow.
A memorial service was held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Daniel’s Funeral home with Lucian Harris officiating. The family received friends preceding the memorial service from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Floyd County Humane Society, 518 Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161.
