Mrs. Burgess was born in Piedmont, AL, on May 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Hoyt and Barbara Tucker Stewart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Oscar C. Burgess, on March 14, 2001, by a sister, Mildred Carson, and a brother, Charles Stewart.
Mrs. Burgess and her husband lived in Cartersville where they owned and operated a shoe store, and then in Jacksonville, FL, and Atlanta before moving to Rome after retirement. She was of the Presbyterian faith and was a former member of the Elks Auxiliary.
Survivors include nieces and nephews; Linda Pinson (Bill), Rome, June Hunt (Ed), Dallas, TX, Marcie Admans (Roger), Ed Stewart, and Charles Stewart, Jr., (Wanda), all of Little Rock, Arkansas area, Patricia Nixon, Nashville, TN, Julia Chamblee (David), Atlanta, and Daryl Mobley, Atlanta.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome, with Dr. Gary Batchelor officiating. Interment was in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Bill Pinson, Daniel Pinson, Jim Pinson, Ralph White and Dr. David Bowen.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m.
