John was a lifelong resident of Rogers. He met his wife, Betty, when the two were in high school. They had storybook love story, and they would have been married for 63 years on June 30th. John was a wonderful father to his two children, and later in life he would become a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family dearly, and made an effort to spend time with each and every one of them.
He worked at Mafco Inc. in Rogers for many years, but retired from Crane after working for over 47 years as a mechanical engineer. He was a devoted employee and was very skilled at his work. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in Rogers for many years, being a church elder and even serving as their church photographer. John had a passion for photography and would take pictures for the church, weddings, family reunions, and everything in between. John also served as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader in his early years, and would teach the kids useful skills. In his spare time, John enjoyed tending to his garden, camping, and doing anything outdoors. He was a loving and gentle soul, and he never complained about anything. He made a great impact on those who knew him, and he will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Ralph and Della Wood; and brother, Denny Wood.
John is survived by: his loving wife, Betty Wood; son, John Wood (Dottie); daughter, Jean Cox; sister-in-law, Beverly Wood; grandchildren, Ashley Cox (Robert), Cody Cox, and Lindsey Worthy (Will); great-granddaughter, Amara Cox; and niece, Michelle Miller.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13th at Rollins Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm. A funeral service will be held the following Friday, June 14th at Rollins Funeral Home at 2:00pm, with burial to follow at Tuck’s Chapel Cemetery. Service will be officiated by Rev. Ronny Nowell.
