On Tuesday, January 2, 2023, Glenna Jo Pledger, loving mother and Mamaw, sister, aunt, and friend, died at the age of 91. As she often wished for, Jo passed away on a beautiful sunny day in her home. She lived and cared for herself in her home in Rogers, Arkansas.
Jo’s parents were the late Silas W. and Hazel Brand of Perryville, Arkansas. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Wesley Cagle and Boyd Pledger. Together she and Wesley had four children; Danny Cagle and Louise Cagle died shortly after their births. Later they were blessed with two daughters, Sue Cagle Edwards Scott and Brenda Cagle McCann Dean. Sadly, Brenda passed on November 2, 2018. Sue lives in Rogers with her husband, John.
Jo has three granddaughters and two grandsons: LeAnn Edwards Pund (Jeff) of Everton, MO, Dustin Edwards (Elisha) of Bella Vista, Kemily McCann Harper (and her dog, Tucker) of Bella Vista, Michael Scott (Kristi) of Edmond, OK, and Allison Scott Jackson (Trent) of Springfield, MO.
Mamaw, as she was called, was blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Zachary Pund (Kerrigan) of Clinton, AR, Nicklaus Pund of Fayetteville, Bradley Pund, currently in Kuwait, Mollie Pund of Everton, MO, Andrew and Lincoln Scott of Edmond, MO, and Kyler, Lilly, and Kelly Alas of Bella Vista.
Tucker Pund is her first great-great-grandson; Tucker lives in Rogers. She also claimed Tucker’s brother and sister, Riggs and Isla. Many other children who knew her called her Nana Jo. Many children also referred to her as Mamaw, just because she loved them too. Jo’s family and friends were everything to her.
She grew up with five brothers and four sisters. Jo was preceded in death by her brothers, Malvin Brand, T.J. Brand, Leonard Brand, and one sister, Neta Bull, all of Perryville, AR. She is survived by three sisters and their spouses: Lucille Runnels (Henry) of Houston, AR, Wanda Elsberry (Wayne) of Maumelle, AR, and Shirley Coney (Gary) of Maumelle, AR. She is also survived by two brothers: Lonnie Brand (Shirlene) of Houston, AR and Norman Brand (Linda) of Perryville, AR. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lavanda Brand of Perryville, AR. Aunt Jo, as she was called, was blessed with many nieces and nephews.
Jo loved flowers, flea markets, candy, doilies, ceramic chickens and roosters, dolls, crystals, flowers, Santas and elves, and clothes. She was very proud of her home and yard, and cared for all of her things with love and care. She filled her back yard with every flower imaginable. Her flowers always out-bloomed and outgrew everyone else’s. She cooked her own meals and cared for herself, cleaned her home, tended her flowers, right up to her last breath.
Jo was a caregiver of the elderly in her later years. She spent many days giving others (some younger than her) a reason to get out of bed and begin their day. She brought smiles and laughter to those who needed it most. Many of these folks were treated often to her skillet cornbread, fried chicken, gravy, and brown beans.
On Saturday, January 7 at 1:00pm, we will lay this dear lady to rest, next to Boyd. The place of burial is Moore’s Chapel Cemetery in Magazine, AR. The cemetery is close by Blue Mtn. Lake. This beautiful lake is where many children learned to fish.Their Papaw caught hundreds of crappie fish and their Mamaw cooked them.
If you are reading this, this is because you loved her too, or maybe one of us. We all thank you for being here today. She is smiling because you are here.
Memorials may be made to the Area Agency on Aging, 1410 SE 14th St., Bentonville, AR 72712.
