Ruth Shirley Wilmot Spencer of Cocoa Beach died peacefully January 31, 2023 at the age of 97. Born April 4, 1925, in Rhode Island, Ruth was raised in Newport, graduating from Rogers High School in 1943. She worked at the Newport Shipyard and Newport Telephone company before marrying Neil C. Spencer in 1950. The couple lived in Lake Worth, Florida before moving to Walnut Creek, CA in 1955. In 1961 the couple and their children returned to Florida and built their home in Cocoa Beach. Ruth loved to travel. She saw much of the U.S., Canada and Europe and spent part of each summer in Newport. Ruth was a realtor and also an active bowler into her early 90s.
Ruth was pre-deceased by husband Neil C. Spencer and survived by her children Neil R. Spencer (Jacquie) of Cocoa Beach, Randolph Spencer of Wichita, KS, Anne Spencer of Cocoa Beach, Kathleen Avis (George) of Rockledge, Steven Spencer (Lynn) of Merritt Island and Marian Stafford (Kevin) of Cocoa Beach. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren Rachelle Sanchez (Pete), Matthew Spencer, Laurene Thompson (Tony), Shelby Harvey (Ben), Carrie Kerr (Brock), Neil C. Spencer II, Kory Stafford, and Samuel Spencer and her four great-grandchildren Stella and Luca Sanchez, and Hannah and Addison Kerr.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am with Services at 11:00 am at Florida Memorial Gardens Chapel 5950 S. US Highway 1 Rockledge FL (321) 636-8943 on Monday February 6, 2023. Interment will be beside Neil C. at Florida Memorial Gardens immediately following. Refreshments will be served after the service.
